Serious Fun!
contemporary jewelry | expert craft | playful expression
Who should apply?
You should! Artists at any stage in their career (student, emerging, mid-career, etc.) are invited to apply. Bear in mind when selecting works to submit that craftsmanship and design will bear equal weight in the jury process, so show off your technical skills!
What should I submit?
Statement jewelry and production studio jewelry will be featured, show us what you’re having the most fun with! You can submit statement pieces, a body of production work, or a mix of both. You can submit up to five images, one application per artist. For production work, images can be representative of the body of work and needn’t be the exact pieces that you ship. However we reserve the right to not display any work that does not meet our expectations based on your submitted images.
Does the work have to be for sale?
Yes, all works included in the show must be available through purchase through Gravers Lane Gallery. Gravers Lane’s retail prices are 2.2x the artist’s wholesale price (artist retains 45.5% of the sale price).
Can I apply with unfinished work?
If you have a fun idea you’ve been dying to make, or are inspired by the show to make something new, we’d love to see it! For any new work made for this exhibition artists must provide images of completed work and relevant information by July 21st. That gives you three weeks to work after the submission deadline, but only one week after artists are notified of acceptance, so please bear that in mind!
My work is about serious topics, am I eligible?
We firmly believe that serious and fun are not mutually exclusive! The fun elements of your work could be the techniques, mechanisms, or forms, even if the concepts or subject matter are heavy.

Serious Fun is an exhibition of jewelry by contemporary artists who apply their expert craftsmanship to playful designs creating work that both honors the deep history of craft and celebrates contemporary whimsy and creativity.
We love to see artists devote their precious time, hard-learned skills, and fine materials to creating works that surprise and delight audiences with their forms, subject matter, or ingenious mechanisms.
